Dungeon Rats is an indie fantasy role-playing game developed and published by Iron Tower Studio, released on November 3, 2016. The title functions as a turn-based dungeon crawler set within the same world as Age of Decadence but focuses almost exclusively on squad-level tactical combat. Players who enjoy turn-based mechanics and the specific combat systems found in Age of Decadence will find this game tailored to their preferences. The experience begins with the player starting as a new prisoner at the bottom of a gang-ruled prison hierarchy and the prison itself. You must fight to survive while developing your combat skills and acquiring better weapons and equipment as you progress. Recruit allies to support your struggle or continue as a lone wolf, choosing to kill anyone foolish enough to stand in your way. Notable changes from The Age of Decadence include a party-based system that was frequently requested by fans. Flanking and other strategic bonuses are present, meaning positioning matters a lot during encounters. Characters can be manually placed before a fight begins, and charisma determines the number and quality of your party members. Skill points are split between the party members, so more people means fewer skill points per person and slower level ups. New weapons, armor, and creatures appear in this title compared to its predecessor. The game offers three difficulty levels: Nice Guy, Tough Bastard, and Murderous Psychopath. Features include a tactical combat system with standard attacks, aimed attacks targeting specific body parts, and per-weapon special attacks such as Whirlwind and Impale. Detailed crafting and alchemy systems allow you to forge your own weapons, brew potions and poisons, and experiment with Liquid Fire and Black Powder. There are eight weapon types available: Daggers, Swords, Axes, Hammers, Spears, Bows, Crossbows, and Throwing Weapons, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The main character is fully customizable, as are the ten possible companions, not all of whom are human, with a maximum party size of four. The game contains fifty challenging fights and offers four different endings. The main story length is twelve hours, while the main story plus extras extends to seventeen hours. A completionist playthrough takes twenty-four hours to finish.
