About
Hylics 2 is an RPG developed and published by Mason Lindroth that was released on June 22, 2020. The game features a single-player experience centered around a surreal story with a distinct graphical style. Players take on the role of Wayne, a crescent-headed protagonist tasked with stopping Gibby's minions from reconstituting their master. The visual presentation combines stop-motion animation, 3D-scanned clay models, and pixel art to create a specific aesthetic. Combat is turn-based and involves fighting over 25 adversaries, each possessing unique capabilities and behaviors. Wayne can gather a crew to explore 3D environments while using air-dashing, rolling, and gliding mechanics. These movement abilities allow players to find hidden treasures or evade enemies during exploration. Consulting the world's inhabitants provides hints, lore, and musings that assist in navigating the game. Players can locate TVs throughout the world to learn new battle abilities such as Poromer Bleb and Soul Crisper. Optional side content includes a platformer minigame and other extras that extend gameplay beyond the main narrative. The main story takes approximately eight hours to complete, while including all extras extends playtime to nine hours. A completionist run of the game requires about eleven hours to finish.
