The single-player experience features a young girl who awakens in a dimly lit dungeon without any memory of her past. She is rescued by a mysterious magician named Beatrice, who guides the protagonist through a perilous journey to find answers. Together they explore the dangerous world while battling hideous monsters and facing incredible bosses. Combat in Lost Ruins takes place in real time and allows for both fast and methodical approaches to fighting. Players can slash at enemies, burn them with fire magic, or deflect projectiles back at opponents using available tools. A variety of medieval weaponry is available, including swords and axes, which allow players to hack monsters to pieces. Additionally, the game offers a selection of spells cast through wands, tonics, and scrolls to burn, freeze, or heal during encounters. Accessories serve as unique equipment that provide various effects beyond standard weaponry. One piece might offer protection against fire, while another could restore health when poisoned. Combining different accessories creates strategic options for the adventure. The environment also plays a role, as elements react realistically with one another. Flammable liquids ignite when near lit lanterns, and ice magic can freeze bodies of water to create hazardous conditions. The protagonist is a school girl desperate to understand her identity and how she ended up in the underground maze.
