About
Abandon Ship is an indie RPG and adventure strategy title published and developed by Fireblade Software, released on October 21, 2019. The game features single-player gameplay set in a fantasy world that utilizes Age of Sail ships within an art style inspired by classic naval oil paintings. Players navigate diverse biomes and themed areas while facing unique challenges such as ghost ships in the Haunted Seas and giant arachnids in the Spider Islands. Environmental conditions including tidal waves, lightning strikes, volcanic bombardments, and blizzards actively modify battles and impact strategic decisions. Combat is tactical and savage, requiring players to engage enemy ships, fortifications, and sea monsters using every available advantage. Each battle is hard-fought on the edge of defeat, where weather modifiers force captains to adapt their tactics to out-manoeuvre and out-gun opponents. The world reacts directly to player actions, allowing for piracy that can turn a captain into a hunted target or quests that drastically change the environment. Decisions made during play create allies who return for help or enemies who seek vengeance based on past interactions. Death is permanent in this brutal setting, but the journey continues as long as the captain remains alive even if the vessel is destroyed. Survivors can escape to a lifeboat or fight their way back from being stranded alone in the water to reclaim their status at the top. Customization options include dozens of diverse weapons and upgrades for various ship classes, alongside the ability to capture enemy ships intact to change their appearance. Crew members gain experience and traits that provide an edge over enemies during these intense naval engagements. The game offers multiple stories including a main campaign focused on overthrowing a Cthulhu-esque cult and a freeplay mode about rebuilding the legacy of forebears. Shorter tales are also available, such as a combat campaign centered on rescuing a sister or the Sword of the Cult where players climb ranks to obtain The Kraken. The main story takes approximately 26 hours to complete, while including extras extends the playtime to around 30 hours. Completionist length data is not provided for this title.
