About
Loco Motive is a single-player indie, mystery, and adventure game published by Chucklefish and developed by Robust Games. The title was released on November 20, 2024. Critics have noted that it functions well within the point-and-click genre. One reviewer described the experience as pretty much perfect for its category. Another source suggested the game offers a real treat for players. The narrative takes place aboard the Reuss Express, a luxurious steam train from the 1930s era. The story begins when an unexpected assassination derails a journey that was meant to be a life-time event. On the eve of a landmark speech by Lady Unterwald, several characters find themselves involved in a murder investigation. These players must prove their innocence while staying within stabbing distance of a cold-blooded killer. Players can take control of three specific playable characters named Diana, Arthur, and Herman. Each character offers an interlinking comedic adventure filled with slapstick humor. The game allows users to choose between direct interactive character control or a classic point-and-click experience. Users can also opt for item-based puzzles that require solving without getting stuck for long periods. The visual presentation features beautifully detailed pixel art animations throughout the game. Sound design includes the slinky sounds of composer Paul Zimmermann, who has worked on titles like Wildfrost and Space Haven. Voice acting is present to enhance the storytelling experience. If assistance is needed, players can telephone for help via an in-game hint call-line. The setting includes a train-full of quirky and somewhat suspicious fellow passengers.

Beautifully animated, wonderfully voiced and witty to boot, Loco Motive ticks a lot of right boxes for point and click likers. If only its underlying mystery wasn't quite so sidelined and predictable.
