About
Psychonauts is an action, adventure, and platformer game. It was published by Double Fine Productions and developed by Double Fine Productions. The game was released on April 18, 2005. Players take on the role of Raz, a young cadet at a psychic summer camp. Raz is working on his levitation merit badge when he discovers that someone is kidnapping psychic children and stealing their brains. To stop this evil plot and become a Psychonaut, Raz must enter the minds of various characters to battle their nightmares and inner demons. He also continues to earn psychic merit badges in subjects like telekinesis, clairvoyance, and fire-starting. The main story takes approximately 12 hours to complete. If players choose to explore additional content, the playtime increases to 15 hours. A completionist playthrough, which includes all aspects of the game, can take up to 21 hours.

What's unavoidable is the fact that almost all of the problems that weigh Psychonauts down are borne out of the legacy that the platform genre itself has, and Double Fine - like so many other developers - has largely been unable to avoid falling into the same pitfalls of inconsistent level design and unwise difficulty spikes. Dammit.

The first half of this game is easily one of the most enjoyable I've had in the past year. But as is the case with many humorous games, the laughs begin to fade in the home stretch and in the end Psychonauts started to wear on me.
