About

Scars Above is a single-player third-person action adventure shooter developed by Mad Head Games and published by Prime Matter, released on February 28, 2023. The game combines sci-fi elements with a challenging gameplay loop that rewards players for overcoming difficult situations within an intricate narrative. Players explore a mysterious alien world while managing resources to survive against hostile forces. The story follows Dr Kate Ward, a member of the Sentient Contact Assessment and Response team who wakes up alone after her crew is transported across space by a colossal structure called The Metahedron. Determined to find her colleagues, she must navigate a strange environment using ranged weapons, melee attacks, and various devices while carefully managing stamina. Survival depends on exploiting enemy weak points and utilizing different elemental attacks to break through obstacles. Players can craft items and gadgets to counter the countless threats found across diverse biomes like marshlands, freezing wastelands, underground caverns, and alien facilities. Exploration involves scanning artifacts, materials, and creatures to learn their features and properties, which unlocks new abilities in the Xenobiology and Engineering trees. The world contains ruins that hint at an ancient civilization that disappeared, offering secrets and environmental hazards to discover. Combat encounters feature ghastly enemy designs with diverse strategies, including fighting hulking rock-covered monstrosities and nightmarish creatures lurking in the dark. Boss fights require creative tactics and the use of gadgets to defeat foes that demand specific approaches. The main story takes approximately seven hours to complete, while adding extras extends playtime to eight hours. A completionist run requires about nine hours to finish all content.
