About
Windward is an action-filled multiplayer sandbox game developed and published by Tasharen Entertainment Inc. Released on May 12, 2015, this title falls within the Indie, Action, RPG, and Adventure genres. The game places players in control of a ship sailing through the high seas of a large procedurally-generated world. It supports both single-player and co-op modes, allowing users to play alone or with friends. The experience is designed from the start to be fully procedural, ensuring that each generated world is unique to the player. Users can design their own custom faction before setting sail to fight pirates, trade with towns, complete quests, or explore freely. Resources found during travel can be used for ship upgrades, while new towns may request assistance as you venture farther from the starting area. Various pirates will attempt to take what belongs to you as you expand your reach. Combat encounters allow players to unlock new talents and abilities that make specific tasks easier over time. Fulfilling production consignments with towns is part of the ongoing gameplay loop available in this sandbox environment. The main story takes approximately 16 hours to complete, while including extra content extends playtime to around 21 hours. For those aiming for full completion, the game offers a total length of about 45 hours.

Windward Critic Reviews and Review Scores
EurogamerDan Whitehead
But Windward is neither of those things. After dozens of hours it still has you doing the same monotonous tasks you did at the very start, even as you claw your way to a slightly better ship in which to run your errands. For a game set on the deep blue sea, it's unforgivably shallow where it counts.

Fun in a simple, almost mindless way, the oceans of Windward are beautiful but not especially deep.

Windward is less of a high seas adventure and more of a soporific cruise for the geriatric crowd.
