Happy Gamescom, everyone. As we all know, the yearly celebration of all things gaming is underway in Cologne, Germany. As things kick off with Open Night Live, devs are rolling out announcements they’ve been keeping under wraps for a while, and Wargaming is no exception, as they made an appearance with a big announcement for World of Tanks. Fifteen years since the game launched and eight years following the drop of version 1.0, version 2.0 is on its way. In fact, it’s not all that far off, as it’s launching on September 3.
When it launches, it will be bigger than 1.0. It took two years to make, and it’s setting the war strategy game up for another fifteen years in action. It will introduce Tier XI vehicles to the game, with 15 new researchable tanks. If you’ve obtained tanks from previous tiers, you know how things work. They won’t be making obtaining these any more difficult. One tank will only require that players complete personal missions to obtain it. No premium currency is needed to unlock these tanks.
In addition to the new tanks, the update will introduce a new garage and UI. The garage will offer players an area for customization, as well as simplified navigation that reduces the number of clicks needed to do something. New tools have been added, including an armor inspector that will allow players to look for weak spots in the tank’s armor. There’s also an improved vehicle list.
Of course, there’s a new map. The Scandinavian-based Nordskar map is where the update’s PvE storyline takes place and also where players will be able to try out three Tier XI tanks.
And, as you’d expect from a big update, players can expect quality-of-life upgrades. These include rebalancing with improved stock tanks and upgrades, a revamped matchmaker to improve queues and team balance, and a sound upgrade. The devs spent days recording real tanks and adding those sounds to the game, making them more authentic.
That said, Wargaming wants players to know that they won’t mess with core mechanics but will improve on them.
