A new era of Smite is on the way. Today, at the Smite World Championships, Hi-Rez revealed Smite 2 – an updated take on the third-person MOBA with all the things players would expect plus more. The game is built from the ground up in UE5 and features an improved UI, updated audio, and better spell effects. Smite 2 will also feature new pantheons as well as an overhauled Relic and Item system.
A new feature in Smite 2 will be dual power sources: Strength and Intelligence. These will help diversify god abilities and allow for more playstyles. The Item Store has been improved as well.
Hi-Rez is introducing a Divine Legacy program that will reward players for their time in the original Smite – including the real-world currency they’ve spent. This program will convert every gem previously spent by players into Legacy Gems. These can be used to purchase new items in the new game. Among the items available are 11 special skins, badges, Gold Mastery levels, and cross-generation skins. The last item works across both games. In addition, all skins introduced in both games going forward will be cross-generation.
This should be a relief to anyone who might have been worried that the OG Smite would be shutting down. If that alone isn’t, Titan Forge Games – the subsidiary of Hi-Rez that develops Smite – has committed to supporting both versions of Smite.
Those interested in finding out more about Smite 2 can check out the official site. Just note that not everything may be available there yet. That said, the Smite Twitter account has clips and other information rolling out as well. Interested players can also register for alpha testing or wishlist the game now on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox, or the Epic Games Store.
