Another studio was hit with layoffs this past week. Over the weekend, news broke on LinkedIn about layoffs at Midnight Society. If you don’t recall that particular company, that’s the company developing Deadrop, an NFT-based extraction shooter, who also broke ties with streamer Dr Disrespect after allegations surfaced a few months back.
Now, the company has confirmed that the studio has gone through “significant” layoffs. According to PC Gamer, a rep stated that the company “has faced multiple unexpected challenges in recent months” and in order to ensure the future of the company, its game, and its “commitment to providing innovating gaming experiences” they’ve decided to streamline. That, of course, “includes a significant workforce reduction”. While the company didn’t specify how many employees had been laid off, one estimate is approximately 50%.
Despite the layoffs, the team still has their eye set on a 2025 release for Deadrop.
