MMOBOMB
May 28, 2025
Back in early April, the Amazon Games team announced several changes that Lost Ark players could expect in the MMORPG. While a lot of those things were additions and quality-of-life changes, there was at least one negative thing, at least for German and French players. The developers had decided to remove localization for players who speak those languages. The main reason for that removal was to apply the resources to the larger player base.
While that wasn’t great news for the players affected, it turns out it’s a bit worse than that. In addition to removing the in-game translations, the devs also removed support for the QWERTZ and ZERTY keyboard layouts typically used by speakers of German and French. The logic, according to a tweet from the developer, is that they wanted to “avoid player confusion and maintain consistency in key related guides and mechanics”. The tweet goes on to say that the devs will discuss options but won’t be changing things back immediately.
Hopefully, they’ll take care of it sooner rather than later. It seems like a weird oversight not to realize that, despite general localization being gone, the players in question would still be using their normal keyboards.
