About

Primordia is an indie adventure game developed by Wormwood Studios and published by Wadjet Eye Games, released on December 5, 2012. The sci-fi title focuses on a single-player experience set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with discarded machinery. Players assume the role of Horatio Nullbuilt, a robot who lives peacefully until a rogue unit steals his power core. This event forces him and his companion Crispin to leave their home for Metropol, a city described as glass and light. The narrative explores what happened to humans after they disappeared from the earth. Horatio spends his time studying the Book of Man and maintaining their airship before the theft occurs. The journey to reclaim the stolen energy source leads to unexpected discoveries about Horatio's origins. As players progress, they gain a new understanding of the legendary humans who once walked the planet. The game features over fifty hand-drawn rooms to explore alongside dozens of distinctive characters to meet. Gorgeous painted cutscenes are included for players to view during their journey through the story. Puzzles within the game emphasize logical thinking and exploration rather than trial and error or pointless backtracking. The interface is streamlined and player-friendly while maintaining the challenge and depth found in classic adventure games. The main story takes approximately six hours to complete, with additional content extending playtime to seven hours. Players aiming for completion can expect to spend around nine hours exploring all available content.

Primordia starts abruptly and ends just as suddenly, and the good story that were teased with doesnt quite ever get told.

Cool art and charming robotic banter can't quite save Primordia from obtuse puzzles and a story that doesn't click.

Primordia is delightful, smart and packed with personality, but it also comes to a close just as you're ready to explore more of its engrossing world. Leaving the player wanting more is no great disaster, of course - and the truncated length makes it tempting to go back and try to earn some of the different endings - but it still feels like a really good game that is only a few drafts away from greatness.
